Mappa Toolworks was founded by Bas Hemmen and Jaap Bosma. We both have a technical background. Wood fascinates us immensely. It grabs our attention and makes us forget about time. The same goes for beautiful hand tools. Tools are there to work with, but we also love to look at them, collect them and feel the attention that went into making them.

Under Mappa Toolworks, Mappa Tools is the brand name for our tools. Mappa Materials is the brand name under which impregnation of wood falls. We impregnate wood for those who want to make handles for chisels or knives themselves. We also sell the synthetic resin for those who would like to impregnate and experiment themselves. In the future we also want to give other tool makers room to offer their tools under the flag of Mappa Toolworks.

A few years ago we seriously started impregnating wood because it becomes so incredibly beautiful, hard and heavy. From that moment on we decided to start making tools. Made in the Netherlands for the European market, that’s important to us.

We have two workshops. One in Zevenhuizen near Rotterdam and one in Terkaple in Friesland. We do all the woodwork ourselves. We do the metal work together with specialists in precision mechanics. Specialists with the most modern CNC machines.

We prefer to sell our products through existing specialist stores. Because that’s where you meet enthusiasts and experts. It is essential that you can touch and feel a tool.
